3 ways to style jeans and a shirt

What shirt is best to wear with jeans? It’s a question we’re asked on a regular basis and, of course, the answer varies depending on the occasion you’re dressing for. Just as a relaxed Sunday afternoon has a different energy to a Friday spent socialising, so do the outfits that accompany them. Once you know the silhouette you’re working with, then comes the jeans.

The combinations for styling are endless but for some inspiration, we’ve curated three versatile looks for different occasions. From the perfect white shirt and jeans outfit for laid back styling to whether or not to tuck a shirt into jeans and how to do so.

The Straight Leg

The perfect white shirt and jeans outfit does exist in many forms but this is one we love in particular. Our Pintuck Kew blouse lends a light romantic note to everyday dressing with its frilled collar and cuffs. Elevated by pintuck detailing, it pairs perfectly with the straight cut Crawford jeans for easy styling. Wear tucked at the front but hanging loose at the back for a nonchalantly chic look.

The Wide Leg

A look that’s versatile and relaxed - The Boyfriend shirt in dark grey and black check layers effortlessly over the Soho t-shirt, while the wide leg of the Fawcett jeans are easy to throw on and flattering. Wear with trainers for a long list of errands or trips to the park, or with loafers for lunchtime plans. It’s a uniform that can be worn in multiple ways depending on where the day takes you.

The eternal question: should you tuck a shirt into jeans?

The short answer is that it depends on the shape of the shirt and the look you’re going for. Oversized styles such as the Weekend shirt lend themselves perfectly to a relaxed look – untucked and unbuttoned over a tee. Whereas our Boyfriend and Classic shapes, as well as our blouses, can be worn either way. We suggest a French tuck every time. Simply tuck the front of your shirt but not the back and let it hang casually for a relaxed yet pulled together look.

Put simply, this is where the front of your shirt is tucked loosely into your waistband, with the back left out. It’s the easiest way to add shape to an oversized shirt without committing to a full tuck. It looks effortless because it is – do it quickly, don’t overthink it and leave it looking a little undone.
