WHAT TO WEAR
Escape to the country:
3 things to pack for a weekend away
There’s something special about escaping to the countryside. Fresh air, verdant views in every direction and, of course, the promise of a good country pub. A chance to recalibrate the nervous system but also to dress the part. From the finest wools and cosy cords to country-inspired designs that speak to rural surroundings, choose a cosy knit, checked shirt and wool blazer to keep the elements at bay as you head for the hills.
weather ready
When embracing the great outdoors – choosing materials that can withstand the elements is key. Both wool and corduroy have been used in clothing for millennia for their warmth and durability. For our winter knitwear, we only use the finest yak or lambswool to make sure each piece feels soft-to-touch but also locks in warmth. From the nostalgic Kelso jumper and coastal-inspired Mini Guernsey to our best-selling Devon and Cornwall, each of our jumpers carry their own style and character. Alternatively, button up with a cardigan, the Jura or Aran. Team with cosy corduroy trousers or a cord shirt, layered over the top, for additional warmth and texture.
Kept In Check
Originally woven to symbolise a ‘clan’ or family, the check is deeply rooted in country life and our brushed shirts have all been inspired by this heritage pattern. For a weekend of walking amongst dewy fields, a brushed check shirt offers easy layering whether worn solo under a jumper or over a cotton top like the Bessette. Or give your outfit the Royal nod with the Balmoral jacket – inspired by Princess Diana’s honeymoon styling in the Scottish Highlands. Each can be styled with jeans for casual outfitting in the country or teamed with tailoring to add a little rural charm to an evening or city look.
Layer Up
Between long countryside rambles and fireside refuelling, layers are key. Those pieces that add warmth, sit effortlessly under other styles or easily over the top. For your base layer, a cotton top like the Bessette is a go-to. This can be worn under a jumper or any of our shirts – like the Classic denim embroidered shirt, teamed with jeans to double up on denim or open over the Bessette top with wool or cord trousers. Then comes the jacket – from check or herringbone, spun in wool, to classic denim. Our best-selling Delon Chore denim jacket is a classic, while the Hacking and Eventing jackets take cues from Equestrian style for some added country charm.
