‘We need to be looking at the lifespan of an item of clothing, as well as the production and materials. As a conscious consumer you don’t want clothes that lose their fit after one wash, you want to invest in stylish wardrobe staples that are good to the planet and will last for years without a huge price tag.’

With the highest quality materials, we ensure our shirts are not only timeless in their style but also have longevity, ensuring both your shirt and your style will stand the test of time.

THE ATTITUDE:

From the very start, we made a promise to ensure the shirts we give you are truly as good for our planet as they can be. WNU is still a small brand, but we are aiming to lead the way for a more sustainable fashion system.

As of 2020, true to our promise, all of the WNU shirts are made from 100% organic materials, which are sourced and woven to order locally in Portugal. We use the highest quality cotton for our Poplin, Brushed and Weave shirts, as well as natural fibres derived from the flax plant for our Linen and Weave shirts. Each shirt comes in its own 100% cotton envelope, which can be reused as a travel bag, delivered in cardboard packaging, which is of course recyclable. You can have a closer look at all our materials linked here !

But it is also thanks to you, the WNU customers, that we are able to help promote sustainability in fashion. By choosing to support independent smaller companies who actively try to be as sustainable as possible, you are starting to make the necessary changes needed to make customers relationship with fashion more ethical, and for that we are so grateful.
THE TRAIL:

The organic fabrics are sourced in Portugal before being sent to our factory to weave and make into our beautiful shirts. The family run factory is also based in Portugal, and has predominantly female staff. The factory upholds the highest standard of working ethics, including pay and rights. The stock then arrives to our warehouse in Coventry, where our amazing team personally package each shirt to order, before sending it to you.
WHAT’S NEXT:

As with any fashion brand we are not perfect but we a striving to constantly implement the most ethical and sustainable techniques and materials. However, we do have some new initiatives under way to help improve our brand’s effort to be as sustainable and ethical as possible. Right now, we are in the process of eliminating all plastic from our packaging, which means swapping out our collar stiffeners for a sustainable alternative like bamboo, that will have longevity, just like our shirts.
We are also trialling recycled cotton, seaweed as a raw material, and new buttons made from nuts! With Nothing Underneath will also be introducing a pre-order option, which will help us determine how many shirts to make, meaning we avoid over ordering. It is estimated that the fashion industry in the UK sends 300,000 tonnes of clothes to landfill annually (Wrap), and as WNU creates shirts meant to stand the test of time and be cherished forever, we want to avoid creating any excess stock. If we do have anything leftover at the end of the year, it gets sent to Smart Works, an incredible charity who help women get into the workplace by, amongst other things, providing interview-ready clothing."
‘Any brand, I believe, has a social responsibility to not only educate themselves but educate their customer on where their products come from, what their impact is and what they are made from.’
